UniMIDI Hub at CSUN Accessibilty Conference

Emanuele “Lele” Parravinci from Audio Modeling joined The MIDI Association at the CSUN Accessibility Conference 2026 to show off the newest features of the 2024 MIDI Association Software Prototype category winner, UniMIDI Hub.

UniMIDI Hub is an innovative software solution that breaks down barriers to music performance.

Developed by Audio Modeling in collaboration with Manuele Maestri and Musica Senza Confini, UniMIDI Hub turns MIDI technology into a powerful tool for inclusion, expression, and personal growth.
Its intuitive interface features customizable colored pads — playable via eye-tracking, touchscreen, MIDI devices, or character devices — that can trigger notes, chords, sequences, and control commands.

UniMIDI Hub can be paired with external MIDI instruments, software, DAWs, sensors, or eye-tracking systems, and can generate sounds on its own, thanks to the embedded sample player.

Who is it for
Educators and trainers working with people with physical, cognitive, or sensory disabilities.
Early music education and preparatory courses for children and beginners, offering an accessible and engaging first step into music.
Music therapists and educational centers, where music becomes a tool for inclusion and development.
Musicians with specific needs, looking for new ways to interact with music through eye tracking, sensors, or alternative control systems.

We asked Lele to explain the UniMIDI Hub and how it relates to music accessibility.

One of the things that differentiates the UniMIDI Hub is that worked with both the University of Milan and Musica Senza Confini (Music Without Borders) in developing the UniMIDI Hub.

Manuele Maestri and Musica Senza Confini created a book that helps people put together inclusive music groups.

Music knows no boundaries.

From this principle arises the Notes Without Barriers method, an innovative approach that combines music and technology to break down barriers and make the musical experience accessible to everyone, regardless of motor, cognitive, or sensory abilities. This approach comes to life in inclusive musical performance, where every person can express themselves and participate actively.

This manual is the result of years of research, experimentation, and hands-on work with people with disabilities, both children and adults. Inside, you will find practical examples drawn from real-life situations, step-by-step explanations, and a series of multimedia resources to see the methodologies applied in practice.

From MIDI programming to the use of DAWs, from sensors to eye-controlled devices, the book shows how technological tools can become creative bridges, opening new expressive and relational possibilities.

Here, music is not just performance or entertainment, but a universal language capable of stimulating emotions, motivating, and fostering inclusion. It is a space for relationships, growth, and personal empowerment. Playing even a single note, through a small gesture, becomes an act of freedom and participation.

Whether you are a musician, teacher, or therapist, this book will guide you on a journey that combines theory and practice, technique and humanity, offering concrete tools to transform music into an experience truly open to all—and to restore its most authentic power: connecting people.
