SUMMARY:BandLab presents: DATSUNN & OddKidOut
DESCRIPTION:DATSUNN\n\nDATSUNN is a prolific content creator and producer known for Twitch streams\, viral beat-making videos\, and collaborations with brands like Native Instruments and Roland\, drawing listeners in with an entrancing blend of classic hip-hop\, soul\, and R&B. Influenced by everyone from J Dilla to Curtis Mayfield\, his ultra-smooth\, era-spanning sound represents a fresh yet familiar new wave emerging from Windsor\, Ontario and its deep connection to Detroit. \n\n\nOddKidOut\n\nOddKidOut is a Philadelphia-based multi-instrumentalist\, DJ\, and producer whose dark\, percussion-driven electronic sound grew from a childhood spent drumming in touring bands before evolving into finger-drumming and Ableton-based production\, creating music for the underdog with a signature blend of grit and lush atmosphere. After his breakthrough Solstice EP on Skrillex’s OWSLA imprint\, he has released across major electronic and mainstream labels\, earned support from artists like A-Trak and deadmau5\, and now brings his genre-fusing\, high-energy live show incorporating ridiculous finger-drumming prowess to stages worldwide.

SUMMARY:Orchestral Articulation Demo
DESCRIPTION:The MIDI Association will show a working demo of the Orchestral Articulation Profile at NAMM 2026. \nThis profile will standardize the method for embedding articulations directly into the MIDI 2.0 Note On message. \nOnce implemented by plugin companies using the MIDI -CI helper library being developed by the 4 plugin format companies ( AU\, AAX\, CLAP and VST) this will provide composers a standardized way to handle orchestral articulations. \nMIDI Association member Audio Impressions has developed a sample library that supports a wide range of different articulations and The MIDI Association helped create a hardware prototype that allows switching the articulations by MIDI 2.0 note attributes.

SUMMARY:Piano Profile Demo
DESCRIPTION:The Piano Profile standardizes the velocity and pedal curves and the registered controllers used to control a piano’s performance via MIDI. It was adopted by The MIDI Association just before NAMM. The model is based on the acoustic piano which is why it was important to have Kawai\, Steinway and Yamaha involved in the project. \nJoin Kawai Artist David Snyder and Steinway Artist John Beasley as they explore the creative possibilities that the Piano Profile opens up. \n“John Beasley\, the one-time keyboardist for Freddie Hubbard & Miles Davis\, whose playing reflects a variety of generational influences\, incorporating the emphatic chordal clusters of Herbie Hancock\, the rhythmic quirkiness of Monk and the lush intelligence of Art Tatum into a highly refined personal voice.”\n-The Los Angeles Times \nDavid Snyder is a pianist and composer raised in rural North Dakota and now based in the vibrant city of Los Angeles. With over twelve years of classical training\, he has delicately translated his expertise into creating breathtaking solo piano and instrumental tracks. \nThese artists will be performing on a Roland A88 MKII controller playing Synthogy’s Ivory software. \nThe goal of the Piano profile is to improve the interoperability between different manufacturers whether they make digital pianos\, keyboard controllers\, software synthesizers or acoustic pianos driven by MIDI like Yamaha and Steinway.

SUMMARY:Drum Profiles Update
DESCRIPTION:The MIDI Association has worked on two Drum Profiles in 2025. \nThe Default Drum Note Map Profile specifies 62 Drum/Percussion Sounds mapped to Specified Note Numbers.\nThis is the common mapping in many Drum Machines and Synthesizers since the 1980s. \nThis Profile was adopted in the fall of 2025. \nThe Drum Performance Profile is focused on the more advanced features available in electronic drums kits which have positional sensing for cymbals and drums and complex hihat configurations. \nThe Drum Performance Profile design is complete and it should be approved in Q1 of 2026.

SUMMARY:DAW Control Profiles
DESCRIPTION:The MIDI Association is working on a modular set of MIDI 2.0 DAW Control Profiles intended to eventually replace Mackie Control with a unified industry standard for all hardware and software. The modular approach was taken because of the wide variety of capabilities of DAW controllers from simple start\, stop and record buttons to elaborate devices with multiple displays. \nThe first Profile will be a Function Block Transport Control and Location Profile that defines Transport Control\,  Record Arm\, Cycle Markers\, and Punch In and Out Points \nThe second planned Profile is a Single Channel Dynamic Control Profile.  \nDynamic Controls are a set of controls that affect remote parameters of a Device. It is most often a plugin or tone generator. The set of parameters that are affected may change between sound engines or even between patches and are typically the parameters that represent the best/common ways to adjust the sound. \nThis specification is intended to promote capability between products that either use a set of common physical controls to manage different destinations or change the set of destinations depending on focus. \nThe third planned Profile is a Function Block Mixing profile.

SUMMARY:Metronaut
DESCRIPTION:Metronaut is an AI-powered accompaniment app that lets musicians play with world-class orchestral and piano backings that adapt to them in real time. It transforms any acoustic or MIDI instrument or voice into an interactive performance experience: the app follows the musician’s tempo and expression\, aligns the audio with the score instantly\, and produces a fully responsive accompaniment. This creates a uniquely engaging live demo format — one performer\, a device\, and a full orchestra reacting musically to their playing. It’s accessible\, visually compelling\, and speaks directly to how modern musicians use technology. (Demo video of our MIDI feature: https://youtu.be/Tw15poOkDpc ) \nBehind this simplicity is a deep stack of AI algorithms capable of interpreting the score\, aligning real musical performances with symbolic notation\, and extracting expressive parameters that drive our orchestral synthesis engine. This makes Metronaut an ideal early adopter and demonstrator for MIDI-CI Profiles for Orchestral Articulation: our internal models can already generate articulation-aware orchestral accompaniments\, and MIDI-CI gives us a standardized way to express and exchange that musical intent. We can showcase\, in a live setting\, how intelligent performance analysis and standardized articulation semantics combine to produce expressive\, portable orchestral results — exactly the type of forward-looking\, musician-centric use case that embodies the promise of MIDI 2.0. \nGeneral introduction video: https://youtu.be/SsnvQvKZ6No

SUMMARY:Music China 2025
DESCRIPTION:Music X\n\n\nMusic X aims to innovate new music technology\, explore new music consumption scenarios\, inspire musicians\, music lovers\, and content producers to explore future music life\, lowering the barriers for playing with music. \n  \n \nThese elements made Music X a huge hit last year. In 2024\, the Music X area featured nearly 40 industry-leading brands – including ACE Studio\, Antelope Audio\, MIDIPLUS\, Dreamtonics\, and Adam Audio – covering everything from synthesizers and effects to audio interfaces and other cutting-edge audio products. Building on that success\, Music China 2025 promises an even larger showcase of music technology innovations. \n \nThe heart of Music X is the X Stage – a high-profile platform hosting multi-dimensional events designed for both professionals and entry-level enthusiasts. Throughout the show\, this stage will feature new product launches\, live demos\, masterclasses\, and product roadshows\, bringing innovations to life in front of the audience. Companies can even take the stage to introduce their latest products or ideas\, making for an exciting\, interactive showcase. \n \nParticipants from last year’s event had great things to say about their Music X experience: \nFrom my observation\, I see unlimited potential in these products. They empower everyone who loves to create and perform music to make truly expressive sounds in any way they want. In my mind I often think: Generation Z is changing the world — there are a million things we haven’t done\, so just you wait. \n— Brand Ambassador \n  \nFrom the early Music Lab days to now Music X\, it gets better and more professional each year. Beyond the quality and service of the booths themselves\, the overall scale and demand of innovative music tech companies at home and abroad are expanding and becoming clearer. I hope more companies from around the world will participate so the event can grow to the size of multiple halls. \n— Exhibitor \n  \nThanks for all your help\, and let’s take a brief break and then start our planning for next year for a bigger and better Music China presence. \n— The MIDI Association
