It is not intended to replace MIDI 1.0\, but rather to build on the fundamental concepts and architecture of MIDI 1.0. \nMIDI has continued to grow and contribute to users since its birth in 1983 as a global standard for communication between electronic musical instruments. Over the decades\, the MIDI industry has significantly expanded MIDI’s functionality and market reach through standardization efforts led by the Association of Musical Electronics Industry (AMEI) and the MIDI Association (MA).
