I have many DIN devices, splitters, adapters, etc....

Trying to connect a USB keyboard to my PC, and have (2) softwares listen to the notes.
One software is a DMX Light controller software (MyDMX), and the other is a DAW (Digital Performer 9).
Want to be able to 'play' my lighting scenes as I'm listening to pre-recorded music in my DAW, and (record) the MIDI notes at the same time.
This will allow DAW (playback) to control my lighting scenes as recorded.

If I can design my scenes, assign them MIDI notes to trigger them (works), I should be able to get my DAW to record the notes as I'm playing.

I cannot seem to get both the DAW software AND the DMX software to see my MIDI notes. Grr....

Anyone out there run into this implementation and found a solution?

Thank you in advance!

I have read in several places that if you want to connect a MIDI TRS-A connection to another TRS-A connection, then it's possible to use a standard/straight 3.5mm stereo audio cable.

However, this doesn't make sense to me because that would mean that the two "source" connections are connected together and the two "sink" connections are connected together. Surely, these need to be swapped over in the cable? I would expect a straight cable to work if connecting a TRS-A to a TRS-B but not TRS-A to TRS-A (or TRS-B to TRS-B).

TRS-A cables that I have seen for sale are also sometimes (often?) labelled as "also suitable for audio" which suggests it's a straight cable. I'm very confused.

There are countless wiring diagrams on the web describing how to wire a TRS plug to a DIN plug, but any information at all on TRS to TRS seems to be very thin on the ground

Can anyone enlighten me please?

Hello all, Let me present myself. I am Paul age >70 living in Belgium. I own. A Roland digital piano since 1998 and used it in that time with a 80486 and Soundblaster 16 to reproduce midi files on Sibelius. I was studiing guitar at that time. Now so may years later i picked it up again but the world has changed.

I bought a usb to din 5 usb midi cable from NEEWER ref NC11 with the intention of coupling GUITAR PRO 8 on the macbook.

After puzzling with the settings i managed to have piano sounds represented on score and play midi files on the piano.
However this is not a stable connection.

Inititialy i have blue leds showing midi is on, laptop on, piano on. Then, there is not a way to say when exacly, the leds turn red and the piano shows error 41 meaning a MIDI communication problem.

I know i have to change the internal battery of the piano but i think that is only for memory purposes. The piano's settings are standard to accept MIDI on channel 1.

The files i have are general midi files and some GS files.
I would very much like to use the GTP files from guitar pro to be reproduced on the piano in a stable way. As i said sometimes there are no issues but mostly it does not function.

What could be the issue here?

<a title="Settings" href=" removed link " target="_blank" rel="noopener">Please find some foto's here

Hope to hear from someone,

Have a nice weekend

Hi All!

I have been trying to get MIDI recording working with my above referenced equipment without any resolution. I have discussed this extensively with Presonus, and they are stumped. I have everything configured in the Audio-MIDI Setup for the Roland and the box... it seems everything is communicating, but when I try to record a MIDI performance from the Roland into Studio One, it is not recording sustain pedal info, and it is defaulting to General Midi sounds, and not playing the particular patch (sound) on the FP-90 that I am using for the recording. I suspect I need other info (controller data? sound patch data?)... frustrating... I really want to record a MIDI track so I can edit the note, sustain pedal, volume of notes, etc.

I have a ticket into Roland and hopefully they can answer my questions, but I know you are all hard core MIDI users, and I suspect you could help me in resolving my issues. I don't know if the Roland FP-90 is causing my issues or if I have a wrong setup somewhere in Studio One, or perhaps something I don't even know about.

Thanks in advance.

Today, we see MIDI being used in interactive art installations, performance automation, and even in experimental smart home projects where devices can respond to musical cues or MIDI signals to create immersive environments. Imagine your lights syncing perfectly with a live MIDI performance, or smart blinds closing automatically when a certain note sequence plays!

At <a href=" removed link " target="_blank" rel="noopener">Smartec Innovation, we’ve been exploring the integration of smart devices and real-time data signals, including potential uses of MIDI triggers for creative automation. We believe this opens up exciting opportunities for musicians and tech enthusiasts alike to experiment with unique home experiences.

I’d love to hear if anyone here has tried using MIDI beyond traditional setups maybe controlling non-musical devices, lighting rigs, or building custom MIDI-triggered automation scenes. What creative uses have you explored?

I recently purchased a bluetooth WIDI dongle (the XVIVE MD1) that plugs into the (5-pin) MIDI port on the back of my keyboard. This dongle expects to be powered by the MIDI port. And given the number of people on Amazon who say it works great, I take it a good number of manufacturers of MIDI controllers do in fact output some power over their MIDI out. However, on my Alesis Q49 keyboard, the dongle does not power up. (I have verified that the dongle CAN power up and connect to Bluetooth, it just won't power up when plugged into the MIDI out on my Q49)

I would have assumed they did this via the unused 1 and 3 pins. But I dismantled my WIDI dongle (in an effort to come up with a way to power it) and was surprised to see that the only connections it has internally are to the usual pins 2, 4, and 5 (and the metal ring).

Upon further reading, it seems pin 4 is usually held at 5V.

In that case, why is my dongle not powering up? Is there perjaps just not enough current available from the Q49 via Pin 4?

Finally, some people allegedly have created an external power supply for the MD1 dongle. But the instructions (formerly on the XVIVE website) have vanished from the internet. Any general tips on how that might be achieved?
